Yesterday’s workout

Heya.  I didn’t write yesterday, but today can count since it is the 4th of July and a day of rest :)

Yesterday was a running day.  I did 30 minutes… 10 minutes of running between 5-6mph throughout and the other 20 walking at either 4 or 4.5mph.  I walked for 5, ran for 5, walked for 5, ran for 3, walked for 10, ran for 2.  Then cool down for an additional 5 minutes.

2.6 miles. 260 calories.  I sweated like a mofo but felt AMAZING when it was done.  And it wasn’t that hard! I was pleased :)

Day 2 - weights

Today the training schedule said no cardio, so on those days I have decided to do some light weight training so I don’t lose all my muscle!   We recently installed a home gym (gracious donation from my parents who had stopped using it about a year ago) so I did a total upper body routine off that.   It is all attached to pulleys and stuff, so there is a lot of resistance which is why the weight amount is not high for a lot of exercises.  I did…

I started with 2 exercises from the latest Men’s Health… section on “Beach Ready Body”… 1 set of dumbbell clean and press, 1 set of dumbbell burpee, and 2 sets of the dumbbell floor sweeper, which was hella hard because I only had 20 pound weights and I think I needed to use lighter than that!

Chest - Vertical bench press, 3 sets, 60 pounds; Pectoral cross over, 3 sets, 20 pounds; horizontal flies, 1 set, 20 pound dumbbells.

Shoulders - Upright row, 3 sets, 70 pounds; Incline shoulder press, 2 sets, 50 pounds

Triceps - Tricep extensions, 3 sets, 40/50 pounds; Tricep pulldown, 3 sets, 30/20 pounds.

Back - Lateral pulldown, 3 sets, 50 pounds; One Arm straight row, 2 sets, 40 pounds; Bent over row, 1 set, 50 pounds, Straight two arm row, 1 set, 50 pounds.

Biceps - One arm curl, 2 sets, 40 pounds;  Standing curl,2 sets, 60 pounds. I was definitely tired at this point and could not finish 3 sets of each.

Then I made some good tunafish for lunch :)

Wow… that sounds like a lot.  Go me.  Might try swimming later tonight when it cools down to about 90 degrees outside!

First day part 2…

I am very happy for going to the gym today and running… I guess I can thank my boyfriend for saying he had stuff to do so that I would get up off the couch and do stuff too!  I was also very proud of myself the other day when I woke up at 5am (I always wake up early no matter what time I go to bed, it’s a curse) and hiked Squaw Peak.  Only time of day really in the summer you can hike it… it was hot, but it was good and beautiful!

My job is very flexible and I work from home a lot of the time, so it provides me with the option to go any time of the day I want.  I like to go in the late morning or early afternoon when it’s not hella busy.

This is the first blog I have ever written, so I hope it keeps up and gets better!

First day

Today was the first day I started running.  I have not been much of a runner in the past as I dealt with shin splints for a long time.  Today I stretched well beforehand and had the mindset of just going for 25 minutes, no matter the pace.  I have done a little bit of research on line and am following the training schedule here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/Programs/agressive_program.htm

I have been lifting weights for about 3 years, but taken a break for the last 2 months so this is good to get back on track with fitness.

It was easier than I thought to just keep going for 25 minutes… I know it doesn’t sound like a lot of time, but it was good.  Ran for about 12 of those minutes, walked between 4-5mph the rest of the time at an incline of 2.0
